Saturday, July 22, 1:00-4:00pm
Location: Corte Madera, CA
Group Size Maximum: 20
Cost: $100/MycoMarin Members, $120/Non-Members

Mayumi will introduce Botanical printing using fresh leaves and flowers along with minerals to transfer natural colors and shapes from plants onto fiber. It is like printing a photo directly from the leaves to the fabric. This introduction class will give you the understanding of dye plants and our relation with nature. You will go home with a beautiful one of a kind silk scarf dyed with fresh plants from the Bay Area.

Materials: All materials are included and will be provided to participants when they arrive for the workshop. Each person will get a ready-to-dye silk scarf (11 x 64") and all the tools they need. Fresh leaves and flowers will be provided but you are also encouraged to bring yours from your garden making it a personal scarf.

About the instructor: Mayumi is a fiber artist living in San Francisco, working with natural dye and botanical prints on different media. All materials she uses are sustainably harvested around San Francisco. She studied Ikebana, field botany, edible and medicinal plants and this helps to create an aesthetic which is in harmony with nature and beauty. She is also an avid forager for wild plants and mushrooms, which she eats and also uses for dyeing silk and wool. She also grows her dye plant in a community garden in San Francisco. She uses all natural dye and mushroom dye to get the vibrant colors for the background and for the leaf patterns, she grows and harvest fresh plants from around the San Francisco Bay Area. She aims to create sustainable art using nature.

Her art pieces are sold at Asian Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, San Jose Textile Museum and other prestigious art festivals. She won the award at the prestigious Mill Valley Arts Festival in 2022.

Register by July 12 by emailing dinnadavisca@gmail.com with Natural Dye and Botanical Printing in the subject line.

We were reminded on many levels of what our incred We were reminded on many levels of what our incredible volunteer community provides MycoMarin: dedication, tireless efforts, creativity, curiosity, collaboration, expertise, support, and an openness to share, learn and continue growing with mycology.

We were able to gather at Watershed Mill Valley to celebrate our volunteers and let them know how grateful we are for all that they do. Pictured is but a mere fraction of our volunteers (imagine 5 times more people!).

Every year we host our “Wild in Marin” Fungus Festival, we continue to improve and grow. From a twinkle in Kevin’s eye, to the first humble and mindblowing success of our first fungus festival, we look forward to sharing together again at our next “Wild in Marin”! Mark your calendars: January 6, 2024!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Spring has brought so much flora and fauna -- and mushrooms and lichen!!!

Have you ever wondered how to use your Nature's finds and turn them into beautiful things like mycodyed wool, felt, and then creating a one-of-a-kind art piece?

During this 2-hour class you will get a taste of what it takes to dye wool using locally collected mushrooms or lichen through a detailed demonstration. Then create a custom needle felted mushroom pin using mycodyed wool.

Coming away from this workshop, you will have the knowledge to create all kinds of other beautiful pins, ornaments and art pieces at home!

All materials will be provided. No experience required. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Cost $40 for MycoMarin Members, $50 for non-Members.
