Marin County Mushrooms with Michael Scianamblo – October 16

Mushrooms of Marin is a survey of the most commonly found mushrooms in Marin County and the Pacific Northwest. Their phylogeny, basic characteristics, habitat and edibility will be discussed. Emphasis will be given to those species that are the most collectible and desirable and where they can be found. In addition, a comparison will be made between those desirable species, their dangerous look-a-likes and how to avoid them.
 
The presentation is designed for both the experienced mycologist and the beginner.
 
Dr. Scianamblo is a graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Biochemistry. He is also a post-graduate and fellow of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Scianamblo has served as a faculty member of the University of the Pacific and the University of California, in San Francisco since 1977. He lectures nationally and internationally and is a recognized author in materials science. He has also been awarded 16 United States and European patents.
 
In addition to his academic career, he has been a life-long student of nature and environmental sciences and is a member, and contributor, to the Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, the Mycological Society of San Francisco, the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz, the Mycological Society of Marin and the North American Mycological Association.
